African Parks has launched a Victim’s Fund to take care of the widows and families of rangers whose lives are lost in the course of duty. The establishment of the fund has been directly stimulated by a €35,000 donation provided by Stichting Energo.
Together with the provision of increased life cover for staff, the fund will provide families with an annual salary and support for housing and children’s education in the event of a staff member’s death in the field. This will go a long way to providing comfort and ongoing security for our field-staff who often work in dangerous and difficult circumstances. The fund has been launched in the wake of the killing of six game guards in a devastating attack at the remote Heban outpost north of Zakouma in September 2012.
