ZAKOUMA HAS A NEW TOURISM REPRESENTATIVE
Zakouma National Park now has a full time tourism representative ready to assist with information and logistics.

Please be informed that Zakouma National Park has now got a full time tourism representative in N'djamena at the African Parks office, who will be able to assist with information as well as the logistics of getting to Zakouma for your stay at Tinga Camp. Mr Assani Habib, who is in charge of our tourism department, can be reached on the telephone numbers or email addresses given below, and can meet with you in person if desired. He can advise on availability of accommodation in Tinga, costs, travel directions, etc. and he can also assist with co-ordinating the charter of an aircraft for your trip to Zakouma. Assani will know of ‘back-to-back' groups which can perhaps share the cost of a charter. He will still be available to guide groups in Zakouma if necessary.
To get to Zakouma by road from N'Djaména is a 12-14 hour journey and is best done in a 4x4 (± 860km). There is accommodation available in Mongo which is about half way. Seven to eight hours of the journey is on unpaved laterite roads. The last 45 minutes of the drive to Tinga Camp is inside the park. There are some alternative routes for the traveller who would like to see more of the country – Assani will be able to advise on this.

The cost of a charter from N'Djaména to Zakouma with Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) for the 2011/2012 season is CFA 2,300,000 return. MAF is prepared to fly 10 passengers but might consider another 2 passengers if there are some children or very little luggage on board (dependant on the time of year). The aircraft can carry 900-950kg, also dependant on the time of year. We will provide accommodation and meals for the pilot free of charge during his stay at Zakouma, therefore if you fly for a weekend and the pilot is able to stay at Zakouma (i.e. the aircraft flies NDJ ZAK NDJ once only) the cost will be CFA 230,000 per person if a full 10 passengers are on board. If the aircraft cannot stay in Zakouma then the cost for the two flights will be CFA 4,100,000 or CFA 410,000 per person for the full 10 passengers. The flight is approximately 2 hours and the airstrip is only 20 minutes from the camp.
