Liuwa Annual Interschool Drama Festival successfully held - a new entrant in the game causes a major upset
More than 100 pupils and 20 teachers, AP staff and government representatives participated in the 2011 Liuwa Annual Interschool Drama Festival, held at Luola School on October 16th. The Festival is an annual competition where the schools and students of Liuwa Plain National Park compete to give the best drama performance related to a conservation theme.
This year, an influx of young and vibrant teachers flowing with upbeat ideas brought a new sense of energy to the festival. The Sishekanu school, recently enlisted in Liuwa Environmental Education Programme (LEEP), took everyone by surprise! They were followed by Salunda and Nangole Basic School respectively.
The theme for this year "Implementing the Land Use Plan” was very well captured by all 18 participating schools but the competition grew more intense towards the end as the final seven schools went to loggerheads to compete in the final, held in Luola Basic School.
Our utmost gratitude is extended to our co-operating partners, the Ministry of Education for having accorded us an opportunity to hold such an educative event, all the teachers for preparing their pupils steadfastly without raising a hair and finally to the pupils for being extremely creative over the years. There is a clear indication by the quality of activities being demonstrated that Liuwa is indeed giving rise to a new breed of conservation activists (and actors!). Let us continue to safeguard Liuwa jealously and continue to use its resources wisely.
