Situated in the upper Congo basin in northern Zamia, Bangweulu Wetlands offers not only breath-taking scenery of a wetland wilderness experienced by few, but also provides exceptional game viewing of some extraordinary species. Vast open areas give a sense of freedom and adventure, reminiscent of wild Africa. The wet season draws to a close towards the end of April and heralds the start of the breeding season for the sought after shoebill. This is the most opportune time to catch a glimpse of these mysterious creatures as they leave the flooded grasslands in favour of their papyrus breeding grounds. This period coincides with the receding water levels, allowing easy access to the park between May and December.
