|
A general, systematic sample aerial survey was undertaken of the Bangweulu Wetlands Game Management Area in northern Zambia between 23 and 29 October 2009 and is now made public.
The Bangweulu Wetlands area is part of the Bangweulu Basin in northern Zambia. It is an important conservation area for several wildlife species, but particularly as far as the endemic black lechwe Kobus leche smithemani (East 1998) and shoebill Balaeniceps rex) BirdLife International 2006) are concerned. The black lechwe subspecies and shoebill's IUCN conservation status are both classified as Vulnerable (IUCN 2010).
This survey was funded by African Parks Network, UNDP and WWF (Netherlands).
