Inaugural ceremony of Garamba National Park Guest Lodge! PDF Print E-mail

On May 28th, 2010 the new guest lodge of Garamba National Park was inaugurated by the ICCN administrator, Mr Cosma Wilungula, accompanied by the representative of the Congolese Ministry of Environment, Mrs Yvonne Sansa and a large delegation. Seven ambassadors from various countries attended this event as well. Mr Dominique Struye de Swielande of Belgium, Mr and Mrs Richard and Ilse Zink of the EU, Mr Neil Wigan of United Kingdom, Mr Johan Borgstam of Switzerland, Mr Jiri Dolezal and his wife Mrs Stanislave Dolezelova of the Czech Republic, Mr Felix Costales of Spain, accompanied by the assistant head of mission, Mr Enrique Criado and Mr David Schwake.

The management team of Garamba National Park was pleased to host this distinguished delegation in the New Lodge, which is financed by the Spanish Cooperation. The delegation spent three days in the Park and management took the opportunity to discuss future collaboration between Garamba and these countries.

Two weeks before the official opening, the main donors° came to visit the New Lodge for meetings. An update was given by Mr Peter Fearnhead, CEO APN, about the current status of the Park and how to continue in the near future.

° Mr Jose Jimenez, Director General of Conservation and Biodiversity , Mr Juanjose Areces, Director of the Conservation Area both of the Spanish Environment Ministry, mr Enrico Pironnio, responsible for Protected Areas and Diversity AIDCO, Mr Flippo Saracco, responsible for the Area of Environment of the EU in Kinshasa, Mr Felix Costales, the ambassador of Spain, who joined the French Ambassador, Mr Pierre Jacquemont.

june_2010_-_inaugural_ceremony_-_new_lodge.jpgHaving received the congratulations and encouragement from this important delegation, we are now eager to welcome visitors who would like to discover the richness and diversity of the Park. Ten double bungalows with a total capacity of 20-30 people are located one kilometer from the station and 500m from Nagero of "motherhood", where you can closely observe the hundreds of hippos with their babies.  The bungalows are fully equipped and tastefully decorated. Bush walks are organized from the camp along the river Dungu; visitors can enjoy learning how to recognize animal tracks, bird watching, listening to the incredible sound of nature or, be captivated by the intimate contact with wildlife.

A beautiful wooden restaurant, next to the river, will be waiting for you where we serve you a cool beer. On the terrace you can relax on comfortable sofas or read a book taken from the small library.
