Majete currently employs over 100 permanent labourers from local communities and 35 law enforcement officers (scouts). Majete’s law enforcement officers are officially employed by the Government but are seconded to African Parks. The fully trained and dedicated team has greatly reduced the amount of poaching in the Reserve due to their commitment and enthusiasm. In order to be the best at their jobs and gain the respect of local communities, scouts are given opportunities to increase their skills and education.
African Parks employs people from the surrounding areas as far as possible. All labourers, fence attendants, carpenters, mechanics, extension staff, drivers and Thawale staff are recruited locally and when seasonal workers are included for road maintenance or burning of firebreaks can number up to 200 people.
